Council in discussions with Westlake to temporarily open Avon Road

City officials will consider all options before deciding to temporarily reopen Avon Road. Council passed an ordinance at its Sept. 26 regular meeting that will allow them to work with the city of Westlake on the project. Unless it proves to be cost-efficient, safe and beneficial to the residents, though, it will not happen.

Volunteer Section

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities: Goblins in the Garden 2011 - Holden Arboretum is looking for teen and adult volunteers to help on October 8th and 9th, 2011. Teens must be willing to commit a half day shift to dress up in costumes and pass out candy along the trick-or-treat trail. Adults volunteers are asked to assist with arts & crafts, admissions, refreshments and parking for a half day shift. Shift times are 10:00am to 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

ONGOING - "Hardship to Hope: African American Art From the Karamu Workshop" - Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, 2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood, OH 44122. Working with Cleveland State University, Karamu House, the Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland Artists Foundation, Western Reserve Historical Society and a private collection, the Museum has gathered more than sixty-five pieces, art and artifacts that open a window to a turbulent and creative time in Cleveland.

TUESDAYS THROUGH OCTOBER 25 - Tremont Farmers' Market - Lincoln Park, W. 14th Street between Kenilworth and Starkweather Avenues. Come see what's growin'. One should expect to find an assortment of local food ranging fro m fruits and vegetables, to beef and prepared foods like home-made-pies and vegan treats. There is always a lively atmosphere with live music and food demonstrations at most events. Please join us. 4PM - 7PM.

SEPTEMBER 30 - OCTOBER 2 - Little Italy Fall Art Walk - Mayfield and Murray Hill roads, Cleveland, OH 44106. A lot is happening in Little Italy with new stores, trunk shows and visiting artists and receptions. Don't miss the fun as you wine, dine and shop in Historic Little Italy where the Culinary Arts meet the Fine Arts.

OCTOBER 2 - Heritage Lane Cultural Arts Festival - Heritage Lane Homes, 1473 E. 105th Street, Cleveland, 4pm - 7pm. Celebrate our neighborhoods and enjoy an afternoon of poetry, art, music and food! Featuring a poetry reading from local author Jacqueline Gillon "Anointing My Hands"; creations from local artists and live jazz by Vince Robinson and the Jazz Poets. Any interested visual or spoken word artists, or vocalists, can contact Charm Warren-Washington at 347-225-1684 regarding performance opportunities.
